Oregon State University's 1998 Technology Seminars

Are you spending time you don't have just figuring out how to get computers to work for you, not against you? If you're having trouble finding time in your busy schedule to learn on your own, the ELI's 1998 Technology Seminars can help. These seminars-small class sizes, filled with guided hands-on time-will give you information in a form and at a pace to be absorbed. You'll have time with experts who can answer your questions and build your skill in enhancing your lessons with technology. Here's what we're offering in 1998:

March 14-15
1998 Micro Course: Hands-On Software
Two one-day sessions (each day with different content) focused on software for computer-assisted language learning (CALL). You'll hear what other teachers have done in their classes and have plenty of have hands-on time to try various programs for yourself. Stop by on your way to TESOL in Seattle!

August 7-9 (two different sessions presented simultaneously)
Finding and Using Software Effectively
Like the Micro Course, but with more detail and more hands-on time.

Internet in the Classroom: E-mail, World Wide Web, and Other Uses for Networked Computers
You'll see-and get hands-on practice in-how to use the Internet for finding useful information, creating lesson plans, and motivating yourself and your students with the tremendous resources available online.

August 10-13
Designing and Authoring Courseware
Tired of making do with what's available, even if it doesn't really work with your students? Learn how to create your own multimedia lessons with graphics, sound, and video. You'll get an introduction to HyperStudio, a teacher-friendly multimedia authoring program.

August 14-16
Create Your Own Web Pages
You will learn how easy it is to put your handouts online, make lists of good websites for your students to visit, create class publishing projects, and even use the power of the Web when you're not actually online. If creating a class newsletter motivates your students, think of what you can do with publishing on the global stage!

Cost: Tuition is approximately $99/day. If four people register from the same school, the tuition (of equal or lesser value) for a fifth person from that school is free!

Special note for administrators: You can bring a customized version of the Technology Seminars to your door at a time convenient to you. Contact us about the Traveling Technology Seminars.
